I then restarted the engine with hopes the transmission would start shifting.īut it did the same thing again. As I had done several times before, I shut off the engine and waited 5 minutes. I put on my flashers and pulled off the road. Needless to say we almost has an accident with a semitrailer going 70 miles/hr. The last episode happened recently as we pulled onto an interstate. What happens is the transmission will not upshift, and the car will not go over 30 miles/ hr at 5,000 rpm. The frequency has been getting worse, from the first year to the fourth year. We have had problems with the transmission not up shifting up from a stop. Thanks.Prior to the 2018 Honda Odyssey, we had no problems with the 2003, which we traded in on the 2018 Model Elite. I have a "build thread" I started, just to ask questions, so if I do a swap I'm sure I'll do a new trans anyway. That being said I have noticed if I let it warm up its a little better. I read plenty of your posts and you obviously know your ****. It's an AT, and you are correct, I'm in a 94 ex. Better if you just wait for the engine/trans to warm up a bit especially on cold mornings.Ĭheck the side cover and look for the pressure switches and the magnetic pickups, verify the switches are not leaking and the pickups are clean(requires removal). Place the trans in every gear before driving off. Try charging every gear circuit prior to driving off to see if that improves the delay feeling. Could also be varnish buildup, add some Trans-Tune or other AT hydraulic cleaner to the system to see if that aids in shift quality. I would suspect, if it is an older/high mileage unit, the trans has just drained down and the delay is simply a combination of worn parts and seals not sealing. Preferably red, dark red is fine, brown, black or burnt smelling needs to be changed ASAP. Verify the fluid is full and in good condition. Again it's only when it's cold.Me thinks you are in the wrong forum.ĥSpd ATs were in the later V6 models 03-05 or so. I put a used trans in about 5 years ago and this just started doing this. What's your idea MIke if there is no code flashing but my car is doing the same? Between 3 and 4 and sometimes between 4 and 5, there is a lull (kind of revs up) then shifts. Just warm it up for 3-5 minutes in the mornings. Been like this for a year and still going. So maybe taking some things out helped the stuck valves inside? If that's the case? Just trying everything on the outside to fix first. But seems to run better since I put back together. I've taken out the solenoids on the trans and checked all screens. cold from 1st to 2nd gear is either slipping, violent or on real cold mornings, D light flashing. Is it slipping in all gears when cold? Or just a certain set? Like 1-2,2-3, etc.It been a number of years since this post, but I have a 2002 Honda Odyssey 4 speed Automatic Trans that is doing the same thing. The problem lies in the fact that one of the following are happening, sticking valves in the valvebody, your seals around the servo pistons are actually hardened, making the piston harder to push down, or the clutches in the clutch packs have had the friction material wear down and is slipping against the steel plates. The treatment can help, but it will not fix the problem. The trans may not necessarily be toast if it is not low or high. And yes do not flush, it can destroy all the seals built up over time in the trans. It helps to unstick the valves in the valvebody. So the best bet, change the fluid, and use that fluid with the Lucas treatment. Just make sure that you take a little out of your fluid, as the treatment is about a quart I believe.
